Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Wow, you are a nasty person! Taking the time to articulate myself isn't getting riled up, nor did I sit there stewing. I showed the topic respect by arguing the point of contention and only the point of contention. I like arguing ideas, but I dislike engaging with nasty people. I now know what this ...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Funny thing is that you can already buy products on the market that advertise themselves as artificial leather, or pleather and such. Where's the outrage there? There isn't because it doesn't involve the word "vegan" - it's the v word that gets people riled up. The exact same supposed "abuse" of lan...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Leather is product with a particular appearance and feel. The fact that it comes animals is only part of the way in which the word is used in a wider context. Again, artificial fur or faux fur are perfectly understood by people despite fur being exclusively something that comes animals. Why? Because...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
I think that in part arises from the vagaries of language and categorisation. If something has the appearance and function of leather, is it wrong to try to reference leather in a description? I'm really not so sure. If it was "vegan cow hide", I think it would be more contentious. We been able to d...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Foreign Correspondent tonight is about the wave of vegan meat substitutes that are coming out of Silicon Valley. Should be interesting. Personally I'm all for it. Competition is a good thing - it drives innovation and pushes up the quality of product. We all benefit from a push to make vegan food ta...

The first one is a great movie (with a candidate for the best ever cameo performance in a film), though I don't know how they could keep the premise interesting enough for a sequel. Definitely watch the first film - it's coming to Netflix on August 1st.

We're definitely in a new political paradigm. Trump and Johnson have said and done so many things of which just one would ruin any other politician, yet they are just quirks for them. Though that level of incompetence and being ill-suited for the job says that there's something fractured in the Busi...

Re: RIP Rutger Hauer
His role in Blade Runner is one of the most memorable performances I've witnessed on screen. So much so that I was disappointed that the book didn't anywhere near come close with that character.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Suppose that's the nature of supply and demand. It'd be interesting to know whether that's the current going rate for someone doing that work, or whether they're optimistically trying to get someone as cheaply as possible. Maybe they'll have to offer more to the eventual candidate, or see what kind ...

Re: Masters of Doom
The book is fantastic, though I have no idea how you can make a show out of it. So much of it is guys sitting for long hours at computers coding and eating pizza. Then gaming and eating pizza. It was all a very interesting tale of their personalities, but the events themselves are mostly unglamorous...

Haven't had any time to game in a while, but managed to spend a few hours this weekend with RUINER. Really impressive gameplay, matched with a cool cyberpunk aesthetic.
Also played through Minit recently - it was okay. Cute premise, though nothing especially challenging.

You USED to be able to disable (or remap) the button on the side. They blocked people from doing that 6 months ago. So now I'm locked in where previously I could opt out.

I'm never gonna buy another Samsung again. The inability to uninstall or disable Bixby, or even to disable the button is a terrible terrible design feature. This is the kind of integrated crap I expect Apple to pull - I wouldn't even expect this level of nonsense from Microsoft. Next phone is going ...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
On bin night, your bin would presumably be on the side of the road rather than hidden in your driveway. And that night would be the point in time where the bin is fullest and thus of the most value to steal. So in theory the laziness factor and seclusion that normally protect the bin wouldn't apply.

And the newest thing often comes with an extra cost that the product won't live up to.
Though if it were me, I'd wait tbh. I'm a sucker like that.

No-one would have predicted that the umpires were on Essendon's payroll. Seriously, if that went the other way, Eddie McGuire would be up in arms about how the league favours the non-Victorian clubs...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
When I used to live in regional towns (not calling them cities no matter what they think of themselves), I never used to use public transport to get around. It was either a bike or walking. I think good public transport infrastructure is vital to cities, but I doubt that most towns have a dense enou...
