Re: Black Mirror season 4

And now there's an interactive Black Mirror special up, though I haven't watched it yet because I can't cast it. Gonna have to go old school and hook my laptop up to the TV for this.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Wouldn't be surprised. Everything is in a constant sale these days that even the retail price is dressed up as one. Gonna guess there's too many products for most people to pay attention to.

What sort of people actually post interview reviews online though?
It was someone responding to a question on Quora about the interview process for the company.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

It's private industry (big data) where all my experience is in Government web development. Last night I started an intro Hadoop course online and started reading a textbook on algorithms I had lying around (in my "This may come in handy one day" pile), so at least for now the plan is to find it a go...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Started preparing for the job interview I've got on the 9th, and I'm baffled as to why they're even interviewing me. Nothing on my resume remotely lines up with their technology stack, and reaching about their interview process, I feel horrendously unqualified and the interview will be a waste of my...

Watched this last night. First couple of stories were okay, but it gets better as the film goes on. Really really enjoyed it!

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

I'd rather kill myself than watch Cricket. Funny that, I'd rather watch cricket than kill myself. You all have fun commenting about the joy/boredom of cricket. After a week off to mostly myself to re-energise, I'm heading out to catch up with friends. Always interesting that people feel the need to...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

We did our family Christmas lunch on Saturday, so psychologically it already feels like after Christmas, and I'm now somewhat distressed because there's no cricket on TV yet. :P

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

I get why process is in place, and hearing about some of the things that were done before any form of change control was put in place, I can see why some people find it important. But in my years of experience in government IT, I see the change management getting more intrusive and more process-heav...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Enjoy your time off. Wish I could do the same, but addiction is a blessing and a curse.

The negroni does not work if you substitute lillet blanc for red vermouth. It's not sweet enough and somewhat perfumey, so you end up with a bitter perfumey mess.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

I don't, but I do plan on seeing if lillet blanc makes for an acceptable substitution for red vermouth in a negroni.

Even if it doesn't, I'm still going to drink it.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Part of the issue for me now is that I really hate working in Government IT - it's so process heavy and (internally) political that to get anything of value done is an exercise in futility. Or maybe I'm just a cynical arsehole who, as a previous manager put it, "hates accountability" and "is unwilli...

I don't stress about the interview - I'll stress if I get the job because it's a very different sort of gig to what I'm used to. ;)

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

For me it's been pretty uneventful. Got a whole bunch of nice places booked for my time off (starting tonight, even if I have to work tomorrow), presents are wrapped, most the food is bought (just need a few fresh ingredients on Monday morning), and the wine from the cellar has been chosen. Got an a...

Restaurant we booked for NYE had to close for the holidays because of an injury, so we had to scramble to book somewhere else.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

It's the way of the world. There's an Indian place we regularly order from, and they seem to do great business online. But everytime I drive past, there's nobody in. My guess is that for many cheapish restaurants, home delivery is now more convenient for most people than going out. I'll bet, too, th...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

National security is one area where we can expect bipartisan stupidity, and it's easy to understand why. Displays of insufficient condemnation are taken as not being hard enough, so the outcome is always an erosion of our liberties for (at best) modest outcomes. The bigger worry with this is how int...

Worst thing about it is the bipartisan support. So it's not like we even have a sensible opposition up oppose it.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

After getting my degree, I've spent the next 12 years wondering why I didn't get a degree in something else. But unless you need a degree for a vocation, it's pretty easy to just learn stuff in your own time in whatever interests you.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Canberra always slows to a crawl in December, which suits me well. It's the time of year i can just relax.

Though this year I haven't gotten my work situation sorted out yet, so that's making me a little stressed/ nervous.

I finally got rid of my Commonwealth Bank CC and savings account. No more paying account fees for me.

Final step in my path to financial maturity is to switch from my retail super fund to an industry one, but I've got to get my head around the whole life insurance thing first...

It would be more exciting if I didn't already have the DVDs. But it's a good reminder to watch it again, even if I've been hanging out for Rebuild 4.0.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Our strategy tends to be just having coffee for breakfast, then having an early-ish lunch. So proximity to good coffee is essential for hotel selection. :P
