Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

You'd think that the Dothraki would be useless in anything other than a riding assault - at least for that battle.

Only consolation in it all was that it was a great sequence visually and setting the tone for how hopeless the task was.

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

I'm just looking forward to the final part of the prophecy being fulfilled. The only question is whether it'll be Jaime or Tyrion that fulfills it. I'm also hoping that something happens with the Robert's bastards storyline. Such a big deal was made kid that in the first couple of books, yet it seem...

After reading about the MCU yesterday, I went to check which films I had seen in it. Turns out only 1 (Iron Man).

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

A $60,000 car that physically cannot get me from my home to my parents home even if I did want to fanny about having massive fucking breaks for charging IS a shitty product. I fail to see how that is 'nonsense' just because it doesn't align with greenie views. From a practical standpoint, it is ove...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

Unless you're in a huge city and never go anywhere then electric is just a shitty product at present, and us investing in it won't change that in the slightest. I disagree with that for two reasons. 1) There's a lot of investment being put into electric worldwide, and the uptake of global electric ...

Re: Show us your latest purchase - Autumn 2019

It depends on the wine, really. Some wines are made to be drank young, and ageing isn't going to do anything good for them (does the opposite), and shit wine won't necessarily improve with age either. So it's got to be the right kinds of wines - usually wines that are high in tannins or acid benefit...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

All through the episode, I kept thinking back to the folklore of the books. When this is over, I think I'll go back and re-read them. Or at least Fire and Blood. It's great that the show takes the effort to try to contextualize what's at stake for the characters. Those moments are what makes the bat...

Re: Show us your latest purchase - Autumn 2019

I can explain from my experience how we did it. At first, we bought some wines to drink and some wines to put away. Over time we would drink the wines that are meant to be drank young or that have appropriately aged, all the while replenishing and adding to the cellar. So we've got wines in our cell...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

So from a policy perspective, do you see anything changing in 10 years time? Like, if there were more charging stations and fast charging cars could be done in minutes rather than hours, do you think anyone in regional centres might see it as viable? Or do you think it's an utter waste of time to ev...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

There are chargers that do more than 7kw now, so why should we think that's the metric we should judge electric car performance by?

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

If charging stations took hours, there'd be no point to them. Fast charges can be done in minutes - not hours - that would give hundreds of kilometres range. And that's with technology that's available today - who knows how well this technology would advance in the next 5-10 years given the amount o...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

I don't see it as much different to having petrol stations on long trips. If there are ample charging stations en route, then there's no problem. But that's one reason for governments to set targets - it justifies the infrastructure spend needed to make it work.

I would imagine that in the next 10 years, what we'll see is a proliferation of charging stations rather than a phasing out of petrol.

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

One of the problems of housing policy is that it is a zero sum game. When you're in the market, you're competing with other prospective buyers that could make money from the asset in two ways - the costs of renting, or profiting from the sale. Tax breaks and incentives in favour of the investors see...

Yeah, I got way more social conservative than my views are generally. Or even that the views the Greens have is the ...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

Personally I think Turnbull and Gillard were both good leaders - both knew how to use the system to get things done for what they thought was the good of the country even if it didn't make them popular. Beyond that, other leaders have had some good moments. Howard with the gun control and East Timor...

Wasn't Sam's original path to the wall being told that he'd be hunted down by his father (or words to that effect?) if he didn't take the black? If I were him, I'd be relieved.

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

For me, it's pure demagoguery. These politicians know what they're doing and they're smart enough to know better. Liberals for a while now have been trying to denounce Labor at every turn as incompetent and will implement dangerous policies. Remember a few weeks ago when one minister was asked about...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

The one that's really sitting me at the moment is calling closing the loophole to hand corporate tax paid to shareholders who pay no tax a "retirement tax". I'm also perplexed that the politicians who take "50% of new cars sold in 2030 will be electric" to either mean that 50% of all cars on the roa...
