Re: Star Citizen

Pretty sure Chris's vision already contains what the community want plus more, he's got that problem without crowd sourced input. I honestly don't think the backers have increased the scope all that much if at all. You've just got to hope Erin Roberts has got Chris under control. Chris is a dreamer...

Re: Star Citizen

Star citizen from the kickstarter was both a single and multiplayer game from day 1, says so https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen, changing the name of something of it doesn't remove the obligations to what backers are owed. Roberts is not some naive kid who pitched an mmo wanting h...

Re: Star Citizen

I did sorta forget that there is some in the aegis module, but it's not particularly good or engaging AI. It doesn't actively chase you, avoid your fire, it follows a set path, if you happen to be in it's path/cone of vision, it will fire at you till your not, then just continues onto it's path. It'...

Re: Star Citizen

Goons by and large took their marbles home when it was said that SC was going to be 90% AI driven and you'd be unable to gatecamp. AKA it wasn't EVE FPS. Ever since they've mostly been declaring SC is dead or not going to work, for 2 years - I'm kind of a bit sceptical of anything that comes out of...

Don't know how you can get a non honest opinion of a somethingawful(or anywhere else) post for explaining what that CIG did and why despite the fact that they have said numerous times have ample of cash, is bad idea. they put the company into a banks hands for exactly the reasons Ortwin said they di...

Re: seniors phone and internet plans

Finding a plan "just for senior card holders" doesn't exist outside of Telstra(and it's not great in price), how much does he rely on the phone itself? cause you could knock about $10-15 off the phone by going bare basic and pick a cheap ISP with heaps of data.

Haven't they made a few low budget sequels already?
They have, check out starship troopers 3 as it's has some of the satirical tone the paul verhoeven classic has, the rest have been "straight faced" action flicks.

Re: Star Citizen

On page 22 of said white papers, they mention using a uberserver, I agree, we are debating this on dumb netcode when the company itself cannot fix what is standard client-server with former Crytek staff who wrote the original code. Lets move onto lovely lawsuit exhibit A. https://robertsspaceindustr...

Re: Star Citizen

In a normal server setup, this scenario is resolved by whoever sends their data to the server first (lowest ping, assuming both players react simultaneously). With the mirrored server architecture, the scenario is resolved based on whoever sends their data to their local server first. Using your sc...

Re: Star Citizen

There is always going to be a fundamental latency between regions. As you put it "THERE IS NO BEATING THIS PART". There's nothing that can be done about that, except better prediction to hide it. The servers don't wait for each other. Each server sends a multicast packet(s) to all other linked serv...

Re: Star Citizen

The cool thing with the design is there is actually no round trip between the servers. So not like this: (request state) (send state) [AU server]----100ms--->[US server]----100ms--->[AU server] The servers actually simultaneously broadcast (multicast) the change in their state each frame to each ot...

Re: Star Citizen

There is a server architecture which can normalise the effect of latency so no player is disadvantaged more than another when playing from different regions - it levels the playing field. I wrote up a more detailed post about it in another forum a bit after 2.0 came out at the start of 2016: For a ...

Re: Star Citizen

I think CIG has transformed dramatically in the last 2 years. If they continued going the way they were, I think CIG and star citizen would have failed... hard. The combination of bringing in Errin roberts and the luck of getting the foundry 42 germany devs from crytek has turned the game around. I...
