Kanye West? Really?

I'm a huge fan of the series and it's convoluted and confusing storyline but that kind looked... I dunno.

That said maybe the music ruined it for me.

Looks average to me. Shit song choice as well imo. Made it worse.

As far as trailers go, this was meh.

But we shall see if the movie can deliver on the goods.

Music aside, I think it could be a good movie. Lets see if there is a better story outside of the Animus, and if there is I will be sold. Jeremy Irons Hell yes - maybe the villain? I think this could work.

I think the search function is stuffed up. I tried finding this thread and it didn't come up with results when I put in "Assassin's Creed" or either word individually.

Anyway, trailer 2...

Could this be the first video game adaptation which doesn't suck? I hope so. I can't help but feel that when I'm watching this movie, I'll be like, "Moar Spanish Inquisition! Less modern day stuff!"

It's a pity they didn't choose a better release date. This'll be overshadowed by Rogue One.

Yeah, of all the game movies I thought had a chance of bucking the trend, I thought Assassin's Creed would have done it, especially with the likes of Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons involved. But it seems to be a bit of a mess still.

Lets hope Fassbender's squeeze has better luck with Tomb Raider.

When are reviews ever positive?

We live in a world run by trolls - can barely tell whats real, fake, good or bad anymore lol.
It's easier to make your own mind up than trust reviews/comments etc.

If I trusted every review I read I'd have nothing to read/watch/do.

HOWEVER - In saying that - yeah I'm not suprised.
Video game movies haven't exactly been... good.
I'll prob wait until a few peeps from this forum view and post their reviews or see it myself and let you know.

I actually just (skim) read through a review for La La Land that gave it a full 5/5 stars... and then the comments below said that it doesn't live up to the hype... I really don't know who to believe in; the critics or the user reviews.

I'll watch the flick when I get the chance if I feel like it.

haha yeah that's my point!

Movies I've thought were bad get reviewed really well.
Movies I've thought were good get bad reviews.
At the end of the day it's hard to trust critic reviews because 99% of them are paid to review things negatively or positively.
Then you have user reviews which are 99% troll reviews half of which probably haven't even seen the movie, you really have to sift through user reviews to find the "general feel" lol.

Sometimes you do find a reviewer who's reviews can be close to your likes/dislikes. Chris Stuckman's probably the closest movie reviewer to my tastes that I've found.

Of course, there's some things he didn't enjoy about Rogue One even that didn't annoy me. And I quite liked Jason Bourne even though it's definitely the weakest of Damon's Bourne films thus far.

As for Assassin's Creed, he did say that it suffers from sloppy shaky cam editing. This can be a hit or miss for me. The Taken films had bad shaky cam editing but I still enjoyed them because of the characters and Liam Neeson's portrayal of Bryan Mills. I'll see how I feel about Assassin's Creed when I see it... it just won't be anytime soon it seems.

I saw it. I'd give it a miss, wait until it's on netflix or something.
It had some good looking action scenes in the past that were a bit ruined by too much shaky cam, overuse of cgi dust effects and overall a lack of tension. The present day stuff was messy and didn't make a lot of sense and there was odd colourisation of the whole film leaving some scenes too dark to see anything.

Where the film failed was in the the awful script. To make a good movie based off a video game franchise requires really good understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of both mediums. In the games, the Animus serves as an ideal plot device to make the resetting of missions and open world bit make sense, it's just faulty memory and didn't actually happen. In a movie that doesn't work, because there's no viewer choice of those actions anyway, also there's limited number of scenes, so a movie can't afford to waste screen time on scenes that don't add to the story or characters.

The movie was trying to do the whole of the first game, which is not too unreasonable, but none of the characters in the past had any depth. In the game we got to know Altair over several missions and assignments and learn what the assassins stand for and why the templars are bad. In the movie there's no tension because we know Aguilar must survive, and also he's not developed as a character well at all.

The present day scenes were also just a mess of exposition, with characters basically doing info dumps to try and catch the viewer up on what's going on. The MacGuffin of the movie, the apple of eden was poorly thought out. The changed animus didn't make a lot of sense. It's a giant mechanical arm, but lets build it in the middle of an old building, instead of a fancy controlled lab.
I think if they wanted to do the movie well, they needed to be less ambitious and aim it like they did Dredd, don't try and finish the whole apple of eden story in one movie, plan a trilogy or something, build the characters in the past, make the future stuff make sense.

Dredd? I didn't like that movie at all. The old or the new.

Oh wow they do the whole apple of eden story in one movie??
So I'm guessing there's no desmond and such. This movie holds its own I'm guessing?

Hmm yeah - might wait for netflix or such.

What a shame. I thought it might have had potential.

I went and saw it during the week. I enjoyed it, but then again, I have never played an Ass Creed game.

I have never (properly) played an Ass Creed game either... and I refer to the franchise as Ass Creed too... so I might like the movie - lol

I seriously should play through 1, 2, Revelations and 3 sometime considering they're in my Uplay library.
