Glass (Unbreakable/Split Sequel)

Post by Mugsy » 27 Apr 2017, 11:50

WARNING: There are spoilers from this vid. I shouldn't have watched it and now I've ruined something else for myself! Only watch if you're up to date with Shyamalan's work.

Finally found an uninterrupted 2hrs to sit down and watch Split, Shyamalan's, latest effort, and I'm a lot more at ease with him doing Glass. Split was well paced and the story developed satisfyingly for me. Hopefully, Shyamalan remains on the same vibe when doing Glass.
So, I accidentally found out that Split ties in with Unbreakable... would have been a bigger impact had I not known that but I was still taken by surprise that Split was a villain origin story. Did not see that coming so kudos to Shyamalan for giving me that. McAvoy is good in this flick. Hopefully, in Glass, Willis won't just phone it in with this one like most of his efforts lately.

Split didn't rate highly with me and I've been a big fan of his other movies, to each their own

That's a fair call.

I guess for me, I enjoyed being intrigued by the internal conflict within this guy, the motives for him capturing these girls, and if/how they'd get out of there. Plus, we get great vids such as this:

On the topic of Glass, I was reading that he intends to make it a stand alone movie and that it could be its own thing. I'm not sure how he's going to do that since he's not introducing all new characters and giving us an origin story to those characters. But I'm keen to be surprised if he can pull it off.

Oh I like this! Seems like a natural progression of the story for sure. Of course, don't watch if you wanna go in fresh.

Reviews are pouring out for this. The critics don't seem to like it but user reviews have a fair few more positive reactions. Some reviewers says that the story goes in a direction which is faithful to Unreakable and Split. Others didn't like where the movie went. The movie looks like it'll leave people divided. No doubt in this day and age when super hero movies are so common and there is a formula to how a super hero movie goes, there will be a lot of viewers expecting them to follow that formula.

I see this on Friday week so we'll see how I take it.

I enjoyed this movie. I actually like the direction the movie went in.
The movie was structured in a way that was true to the character of the movie title IMHO... as were the events that took place. I don't treat this as what a traditional sequel to Unbreakable or Split would be like... each movie in this trilogy is designed around the character its title references and I think once people start viewing it that way, they will find Glass more satisfying.
Critics know nothing.
