The Witcher - (TV Series)

Post by Sathias » 17 May 2017, 22:02

Oh, wow. (Bold added)
Netflix is developing an English-language drama series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher, according to a press release from production company Platige Image.

The Witcher series will be based on Sapkowski’s eight novels and story collections, the source material for CD Projekt Red’s video game series of the same name.

“Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix vice president, international series, in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited about bringing Netflix members around the world.”

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” added Sapkowski. “I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, both executive producers on Syfy’s The Expanse, will serve as executive producers on The Witcher. Platige Image’s Tomek Bagiński and Jarek Sawko will also produce, while Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant on the series. CD Projekt Red was not mentioned in the company’s press release.

Platige Image is based in Warsaw, Poland. The company consists of 150 professional artists, designers and producers with “deep expertise in animation and special effects work,” according to Platige. The company’s video game work includes animation shorts and promotional videos for titles like Prey, League of Legends, Frostpunk and Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Sweet. Something to look forward to when Game of Thrones finishes up.

I just hope they keep the eastern European flavour of the Witcher and dont "westernise" it ,but with the author onboard hopefully that wont happen!

Would prefer STALKER or Roadside Picnic.

I've never seen the use of Westernise for the East / West European divide.

I wouldn't mind STALKER. Lovely post apocalyptic atmosphere that world.

I read the other day that "Last Man" was cancelled... luckily it wasn't "Y: The Last Man". Been waiting to see that come to life on screen.

In westernising I mean changing the feel ,style from it's eastern euro/slavic medieval type setting to a more "generic" feel ,sort of the standard englishy kind of thing....probaly not explaining it very well but for me with the Witcher it's always been the setting and the world as well as the game ,because of that eastern euro/slavic thing is different from what's usually done

Not watched the video. Henry Cavill's apparently a Witcher fan, from what I read the other day, and if they're getting someone that big I'm a bit more hopeful for the series. Unless the whole budget goes on hiring him...

Looks terrible. Hope they at least have a better outfit planned because that looks costume-shop at best.

Costumes look better in their proper context. Not deep enough into the lore to know why Yennefer has a wonky face but I guess that'll make sense later? And Henry looks good as Geralt! Hopefully he'll get to hunt a few weird monsters along the way. Will definitely watch whenever it finally comes out.

The panel from Comic Con is up on YouTube. Don't know if this is an officially sanctioned recording so it might disappear.
Probably best bit is Henry Cavill saying he doesn't have a stunt double for the show, doing all the swordwork and stunts himself.

Started watching the comic con panel only to realise I'm currently digging into my mobile data quota. Can't wait for my wireless broadband modem to arrive.
