That seems pretty high budget. Looks good.

Star Trek: Discovery

Post by Dexterians » 26 Sep 2017, 09:16

Watched this on Netflix last night - wasn't too bad! Very different type of Star Trek, felt more like the new movies with the action and camera work etc.

Keen to see where it goes.

Anyone else check it out, thoughts?

The show is set chronologically in an era of Star Trek following Star Trek: Enterprise, but before the 1960 Star Trek that fans now refer to as The Original Series

Not the same timeline either way, it's all the rebootverse now.

Wasn't impressed by the pilot but hopefully it will build into something worth watching. Much prefer The Orville for now.

I genuinely liked the first 2 episodes. Certainly be watching more.

It seems like the only way the US can see this show is to sign up and pay for CBS's online streaming service (no idea what else they have of value on there). Which seems like a mistake, lots of people complaining and swearing they won't do it.
But at the same time, I also read that with the distribution deals they've set up for the rest of the world that the show is paid for whether the yanks pay to see it or not. Which is pretty interesting. A gamble to get their online stuff going, but also not a gamble.

Also a real shame they couldn't put more trust in Bryan Fuller and that he knows what he's doing when it comes to making TV shows. I'll always wonder about what could have been with Discovery.

Yah. Orville definitely closer to being more Trek than the new Star Trek. However, am liking this new Star Trek. Sorta feels like the new movies.

Truthfully, I wasn't sold on the first episodes of ST Discovery. Felt like a little to much polish for what it might actually be, but after watching the latest episode... WOW!, big difference and some action scenes I've never seen in a Star Trek TV show. I'll certainly be up for the rest of the series after that episode. Compared to the pilot, a much better introduction to the new series.

Just some thoughts, which could be looked upon as spoilerish, so I will hide it.
Now, no matter what the Captain says to Michael Burnham about their mission, I get a really strong Section 31 vibe from the Captain, which would be a very interesting way to go.

That's because most trekkies have terrible taste in science fiction but think it's the best thing ever.

I'm really enjoying Discovery so far. Last few eps have been great, I really felt for that tardigrade.

It's okay so far, not really sure if I'll stick committed to it or not, I mean I started watching episode 5 last night and then decided I'd watch something different 2 minutes into it.

It really bugs me how the Klingons don't look or act right

The swearing in the latest episode was very jarring. Didn't fit into the episode or the series so far, nevermind Star Trek in general. Hoping it's a weird one-off attempt to push the boundaries, as it was a good episode otherwise.

Ooooh, Rebecca Romijn!
That looks pretty okay. Can't really be as bad as S1, that would be impossible!

Almost done with season 1. Interesting that they went all Starcraft and then Training Day.

Started watching it when it came out but was a little "meh" about the 1st couple of episodes , looks like I might have to get back to it and give it another go.
