I can forgive the mods for the big subs a little. There would be a hell of a lot of work to do to bother going through someone's post history (unless they've pissed you off of course).

I think I'm onto my 4th reddit account, I just tend to delete them and make new ones so people can't see my shit, people on that place can be insane, in r/squaredcircle the pro wrestling subreddit a few years ago they got a couple of new mods in different time zones because the sub was slowly growing, one new mod changed some of the CSS and it came out pretty bad, someone made a post saying they were a graphic designer and offered to help him, the mod went insane, banned the dude, threatened to ban anyone else who talked about the design, eventually the creator woke up to like 1000 PMs, unbanned the user, banned the new mod set everything back to normal, then this now banned mod started sending threatening PMs to people threatening to come to their (city they had mentioned in their post history) and kill their (family member or pet they had mentioned in their post history) the actual reddit admins had to step in and ban the guy from the whole site

I was only thinking to myself last week I'd done well to not get sick all winter, and then boom.. my wife spends a week hardcore with the flu, and inevitably.. I caught it.

Just sitting around being in pain is an effort right now and I'm not in a position to take any time off work this week either.

Seriously, explain how ill you are to your work. People coming in sick because they feel they have to and making the rest of the office sick is terrible.

Fuck em, if i call in without coming in and having someone force me to go home then i'd automatically get labelled as someone just bludging because those same assholes do it themselves.

I'm coming in, their god damn children and shitty parenting are probably the reason im sick anyway.

Yeah it's becoming more and more likely that I'm not going to work today, just spent the last three hours in bed feeling like shit before getting up to make a cup of tea and have another shower, see if that stops my whole face from aching, seriously this flu thing is bullshit.

Here's my take on sick leave.

People get sick. Zero gain is made by managers trying to second guess authenticity. Best position is to assume that yes people are sick, no you don't want it spread in your workplace, and always check in and give a damn about your people when they return to work.

With that said, the leader should keep a calendar, look for patterns, hold conversations when required, get involved with making sure the person is seeking appropriate treatment. Consider mental health, get in the face of issues and demonstrate you care (if you don't actually care, you shouldn't be a leader). Just stay connected and demonstrate the balance you are striking between business needs and personal health.

You can't just fire someone for sick leave so a lot of workplaces just go about making the persons life miserable enough that they quit. I've seen both sides of the coin though... the ones where some real focus can help people make decisions about where they want to work (and they'll inevitably be happier when they leave) and the ones where we support them to the hilt through significant life events (and they're the ones I'll defend to my last breath).

Neko, it ain't shitty parenting, kids are just disease factories :(

Interview is over. Spent the last few days reading up on one technology, only to be asked 'have I used it before?' Followed by a lot of questions about the details of how to use other technologies I didn't read up on.

Fingers crossed for you anyway storm!

I'm trying to decide whether I should nap to make up for sleep I missed last night or let it build up and have a super early night tonight, I don't take much sick leave so I'm not worried about them not believing me, it's just bad timing more than anyhing.

I had worked with one of the interviewers before and he seemed happy to see me. So I'll take that as a good sign. Was able to understand the code they presented to me and solved the recursion problem I was presented. So not all bad, even if I did look dumb when it came to JPA, Web Services, and JMS.

I'm home now and had lunch, so I'll play some games and watch GoT.

And the coalition have a 1 seat majority in the lower house... so losing that 1 seat is enough for them to lose power without making a government with an independent or the Greens...

Took nearly 5 hours for the Foxtel Now app to allow me to play GoT via the Chromecast. I can't wait to unsubscribe from the shit service.

Hmm... tooth broke in half while eating tea tonight... but isn't causing me any pain at all.
That is actually worrying me more than the tooth breaking

drove with a trailer load of glass and timber frames to site, with a massive detour because a bridge was closed off due to flooding.
spent the entire time very wet. luckily its not actually cold.
so glad to be home with a nice beer and the rain on the roof sound.

Yay for being back at work, it was a novelty for a few hours but I'm ready to go home now.. still not 100%, but finally had a decent nights sleep though (not great, but decent).

Mrs Disco has finished a course of antibiotics and is sicker than ever, so back to the doctors again today.
