The UFC/MMA thread

Post by NotThatDoug » 05 Nov 2015, 23:52

In preperation for the fight UFC has put Ronda Rouseys last fight on YouTube for free

Anyone here going to UFC 193 in Melbourne next weekend? Or any plans to go out to a particular place and watch it?

I'll probably order it and have some mates over, looking forward to the main event obviously, but I'm also looking forward to Hunt vs Silva, Stephan Struve is always good to watch and hopefully if Ronda gets another round one win they will replay the prelims and we can see Ben Nguyen fight, he had a pretty impressive début in Adelaide earlier in the year.

Totally amped for this, got a few mates coming around for it. Great card from top to bottom. Looking forward to see Whittaker fight again, saw him live in Adelaide and his win was the highlight of the event, the room went absolutely mental. Watching it on TV doesn't prepare you for the atmosphere.

I hope Hunto bounces back too, sounds like he's had some really good preparation in Thailand and I think Bigfoot is on more of a downward slide than he is.

Edited the post to embed the video now that we have that feature.

I really hope they do a UFC in Perth one time, probably the best chance I have of seeing one because I doubt Darwin will ever get one.

Rowdy Rousey is a scary looking chica when she has her game face on, and I wonder if her huge popularity has to do with the fact that when she's not fighting, she seems to normal. Reminds me a bit of that girl from the Hunger Games movies and how accepted/loved she is.

I wonder if they'll ever allow M/F matches in UFC

Haha yeah I would actually - the thing is it works for her, Jennifer Lawrence always seems like she's trying too hard to not care and be socially awkward. I feel like I could sit down and pig out on buffalo wings and beer with Rousey and then have a belching competition

I think Holly saw Fast & Furious 7 recently and decided that justice was needed from Rondas "acting" :P

Great performances like I had hope from Ben Nguyen and Mark Hunt like I hoped, Holy crap did Ronda look out of her element, it was always going to crazy for her to try and throw hands with Holm but even her mat game was sloppy, lot of people being dick bags about it though, its not her fault the ufc kept pushing her down everyones throats with those 'once in history' ads.

I wonder where all those people who praised her standup so highly are now? She looked like a 2001 era mens fighter out there, terrible footwork, too tense and just windmilling.

I just watched it on fb, given that Rhonda was giving up a height and reach advantage and fighting a southpaw she really did herself no favours by going toe to toe with Holly, she just put herself in a position to get hit. Holly has a pretty extensive boxing career and used that skill set very well, Rhonda was done by the first round, exhausted and dazed.

the fight is a few posts down the page and the Spanish commentary is quite funny.

She basically did what Reem did against Bigfoot, walked in with zero respect for her opponent and got slapped because of it. Call me a sadist by my favorite part of MMA is when a fighter talks endless chit about how amazing their standup/whatever is and then gets made to look a child by someone who's actually decent at it.

It's good for the division and MMA in general. I just hope there aren't any controversial topics to follow :P

I thought the prelims were quite entertaining. Whittaker had a tough fight and GG to Hunt. Hope Hunt can have one more decent run at the title before he finishes.

I hope Doug doesn't mind, I've renamed the thread to be the combat sports/MMA thread :)

Looking forward to 194, Conor vs Also is going to be insane! Great card all round as well, lots of interesting fights.

And also, holy shit Neko that's insane

Hah all good, we should probably rename the WWE Survivor Series thread just to be a general Pro Wrestling thread as well.

I'm super pumped for UFC 194 as well. Might head down the to the Pub, no alcohol is allowed to be sold until Midday in our town and it starts at 11am WA time so it'll be a quiet first hour.

I'm guessing no-one watched 194 today? Some great fights, and I was DAMN close on my bet for the main card too, but not quite on the money.. picked the winner at least :D

Saw the main event while at my brothers birthday at a pub. Had to wait for the replay to see what actually happened

Fuck, I was hoping for a more competitive main event, Aldo is a beast but that counter by McGregor was absolutely magic technique. Rockhold looked good too, well deserved win. Maia is an absolute beast on the ground, Gunnar was winning BJJ comps before he was even 18.

I'm a fan of Robbie Lawler but in my books tonight is the second time he's got a gift decision in a UFC title fight. I had Carlos winning 1, 3 and 4.
