Pretty disappointing ending, that LBW on Stokes in the final overs was about as plumb as you can be. Great batting by Stokes but I can't stand the dude... even in victory he's whining about DRS because it made that ball rightly look like it should have been out.

that was a poor decision by the ump but Australia dug that hole. I'm not a fan of Stokes though when you put on the war paint and go full monty he deserves some credit. with 80 runs and one wicket Australia should have it well before the ump decided the game.

It does set up a couple of good tests, England need to win and draw Australia only needs to draw.

honesty disclaimer: I'm actually an England supporter in cricket, Welsh in rugby, Portugal in Football and Australia for all other sports. I was born in Australia but I do have a complex heritage and my wife is Welsh..

I hope Australia play Starc he could be a real weapon in this test, but I think Khawaja has been hard done; Harris has done nothing and playing at 3 when your openers aren't performing is a challenge.
rain might force this test to a draw, forecast doesn't look good until the weekend.

Australia certainly won the day, well played steve and marnus; tomorrow looks to be a good batting day so England will need to do something special to keep Australia below 300. Friday weather looks pretty mixed so the Australian bowlers might yet get the best of the conditions.

how a dropped catch and a no ball can cost you the Ashes, hard to see England recovering from such a deficit and I doubt the match will make it to Sunday.
Great innings from Smith and Paine but as Smith himself said the English wasted the new ball by pitching too short, Broad bowled well but wasn't really supported and that no ball from Leech absolute fail for a spinner.

Yeah Broad's opening spell was the only highlight really... for all the talk of momentum from the last test, didn't eventuate at all. As someone with an irrationally large hatred of the English team, I couldn't stop laughing when Smith got called back.

England on the ropes and hard to see them getting to tea in fact it could be over before lunch. the first session will be a cracker and IF England to manage a draw the fifth test will be a block buster !

well played Australia and deserving win. good that England showed some fight on the final day but once Stokes was gone it was only a matter of time and the Australians showed good composure and patience to close out the test match.
Test five should be a good one plenty to play for and will end a good Ashes series.

Playing Jimmy Anderson in the first test was a big mistake for England, under an injury cloud they would have been better to play Archer and save Jimmy for the final two tests, but what is is and now they will have to dig deep to draw the series and finish with some hope.

Yeah I think there is still plenty to play for in the last test. The Aussies may have retained the urn but they will want to go home with a winning record rather than a drawn one.
