Decided to get back into swimming now that the deep tissue muscle strain in my lower back seems to be subsiding a bit. Also a bit hot today.

Pool gate is locked.

Sent an email to the body corp manager and site manager... knowing my luck, it'll take a month for me to get access.

Still haven't fully recovered from the deep tissue muscle strain on my lower back so no jumping.

Site manager was actually on the ball... his people had put in the new access keys into everyone's mailboxes two days ago (so it was my fault for not checking my mailbox... which I rarely do because I use a PO Box). New access thingo doubles as a pretty cool key chain.

So I decided I'm going to play footy (AFL) again this year. Pre-season started in October/November last year, so second session back after doing no cardio since August... Physically I am ok as I've been doing a lot of muscle work, but my fitness is shot! Hopefully I get that back quick as the season starts in a month!

what you need to do is get down to an oval with a footy and kick and chase, kick and mark, pick the ball off the ground at full tilt; do that for an hour a couple of times a week and your muscle memory will return and you'll be good to start proper training when the season kicks off; that's how I spent my uni holidays when I was a lad, good fun :)

Too late for that. I've already started doing pre-season training with the club so I'll just have to suck it up and get used to it!

Kick is where you drop the football and put your foot through the ball such that it's propelled away. A mark is when you catch a kick on the full.

5.3km run tonight. Only thing was I didn't realise sunset is so early, so I had to improvise my run so there'd be at least some light. Winter is coming.

Back has buggered up again. Seems my core strength hadn't recovered from a few weeks back and I shouldn't have been moving furniture around this weekend. Looks like it's gonna be a while longer before I get back to swimming or start with weights again.

On the other hand, my bro's been a real champ giving me remedial massages which has helped loosen up those tight back muscles.

Wanted to run when I got home from work last night, but wasn't used to how dark it gets now that daylight savings is over, so I put it off until this morning. I know for the next 6 months I'll need to exercise in the mornings (or get used to running in the dark), but I have no idea how people do it. Evidently I'm not a morning person...

Did a 26 km hike over the weekend from Cape Jervis to Tapanappa Lookout. Contained about 800m of ascent and 600m of descent. Pack was 18 kg for the first day, 16 kg for the second.
I forgot to use the 100m of ascent is equivalent to 1km extra distance rule when I did the time calculations, so we got to the campsite at 7pm.
Couldn't find any flat ground in the dark at the Eagle Water Hole Campground, so we slept on the bunks in the shelter.
Was a bit harder than I intended or expected, but it was a good way to find out what my fitness is like.
Unfortunately, my hike shoes appear to be half a size too big so I have some not lovely blisters on my feet. Also got some odd blisters from where the hips straps were sitting over the hem of my shorts. Won't be hiking with those shorts again.
Scenery was very dry, but we did find Muntries, see the UFO and the Deep Creek Waterfall was flowing.
I've now done 2 days of hiking at both ends of the Heysen Trail.
Approximate route here: https://www.google.com.au/maps/dir/-35. ... b4!1m0!3e2
The section between north of Trig Campground to the Waterfall is wrong, as Google Maps doesn't have the rerouted trail on it yet.

FML, i've switched my 3x5-amrap weighted chins in my program to a ladder designed to push my total up. Squat/ohp/chins tonight and i cant lift my arms higher than my shoulders now.... so much for finishing with some yoga afterwards bahaha.

Will be nice to have a non bitch total, i feel old not just being able to bust out 20 on demand.

Stay tuned to see if my urine turns brown and i take a trip to the hospital, i doubt its that bad though.

edit: It's a pretty decent program so far (though im only half through week 2), already feeling stronger and the sets i do are more explosive. Link if anyone wants to throw some random fun into their workout, it even starts slow enough for people who can only do a single negative(though im doing chins rather than pullups, concept remains the same)

Been swapping up a few programs here and there over the last 4 months but settled on 5x5 Stronglifts just because of the app which I'm loving.

Not breaking any records except my own, but so far my sets look like this (bear in mind, it's 5 sets of 5 reps, plus warmups)

Squat - 50kg
Overhead Press - 35kg
Deadlift - 90kg
Bench Press - 62.5kg
Bent Over Row - 42.5kg

Pretty impressed by my own deadlift and bench press, I've always had weak shoulders but they're improving, and I started real low for squats given I'm fat already and have had knee problems in the past (better safe than sorry, and yes, my physio checked my form). Just a few months ago I was having to build up to just BW squats, and here I am.

End of week 3 for my chins pyramids, halfway in and my retest was 12 (up from initial 5-6) feeling decent but i can feel my grip complaining.

edit: hit 10 on my deadlift amrap so next dl session is bodyweight. Not exactly staggering weight but its a smalll milestone.

Can confirm, Nekosan is going to feel like death.. the normal 5/3/1 routine is pretty good but fuck that

I'm officially down over 20kg now, it's taken me a while with ups and downs but overall my weight is trending down, so that's good.

3 weeks in a row I've been able to go running at lunch time at least one day in the work week, in addition to my regular long run on Sunday. My fitness has a long way to go, but I feel encouraged that I'm keeping to my workout plans.

In the future I want to up it to 3 times a week, but I'm not sure how without toning down art least one of the runs so I don't need a long recovery time.

Signed up for the 10,000 step challenge which starts this month. This weekend will be pretty crap... I've spent most of it sitting and preparing for my interview. Or I've had my mobile (with step counter app) not on me.

We had one of those at our current workplace. As someone who does 10,000 steps nearly every day, I can't see the point of it - all it takes is one rainy day and the challenge is ruined.

Though I can't talk. I just signed up to do the 10K Canberra fun run in September, and I'm nowhere near fit enough for that. :P

Yeah, I'd say it's mainly for those of us who spend too much time at the desk, don't go out for a walk during lunch time, and don't put in the extra time for exercise after work.

I did a few trials and I only clock in about 6500 steps between going to work and going home and walking around the office during the day. So that's 3500 steps I need to make up for outside of work or during lunch hours.
