Just a reminder that Inside is free on the Epic store tomorrow so if anyone was thinking of getting it through the current Halloween humble bundle, you won't need to.

The mid tier for the latest humble bundle actually isn't that bad. Has Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny. Not sure I'd want to pay the extra for Borderlands GOTY enhanced edition.

Yeah this is getting out of control and will just make piracy look like the more viable option (movie/TV show piracy is trending upwards gradually with all the different subscription services).

Shit that means I have 8 plus MMO ones..
As Fallout76 comes from the Bethesda launcher.

But I think I already had a small Rockstar "launcher" for GTA V anyway. It was shit though and downloaded at half the speed the Steam version did.

Yeah, pretty sweet giveaway!

Have yet to play a single game from the Epic store short of a test run of Unreal Tournament and Shadow Complex Remastered. Didn't even play Paragon despite installing it. I think I'll just grab free games from Epic each week and never look at Steam sales... I'm sure that I'll eventually get all the games that interest me.

Why does it make piracy a more viable option? I can understand people saying that with the huge increase in streaming services, because they cost money to subscribe to, but I really don't see a big deal in installing another launcher? It's like saying... "what, they are releasing more games? I already have 5 on my computer!"

Because multiple launchers means also juggling multiple accounts and also trying to work out which game is on which launcher.

We're also starting to see an uptick in game subscription services akin to Netflix. EA was first off the mark with Origin Access and we now have Xbox Game Pass for PC and Uplay+. That's 3 so far with more likely on the way (Rockstar's recent rebuild of their launcher may be a precursor to their own subscription service and other AAA publishers have been rumoured to be working on such services).

There's a real simple solution if you dont like the model, dont buy their products.

The customer(market) is always right.

Most launchers allow you to add a shortcut to your desktop so not sure that working out which launcher is a huge concern. I hear what you are saying re the subscription services but it's not like Netflix and co where the sub is your only option to access those titles. If and when they make titles exclusive to subscriptions (even MMOs are moving away from the exclusive subscription model) I would start to see it as similar to the VOD model.

In the end, the Epic launcher has been giving me the opportunity to get a few games for free that I wouldn't have otherwise, with the developers still getting something for their effort (the payments that Epic are presumably making to be able to offer the games) so I'm supportive of Epic investing their Fortnite dollars in such a manner.

I used to think that too but more recently i think its bs. The overwhelming majority of people will just pay for things if they price is right and (maybe more importantly) it's quick and easy to do. I don't think i actually know anyone who has pirated mp3's any more etc.

The only reason tv and movie piracy is still a thing is that every distributor wants their slice of the pie.

Yeah, the last article I read on Epic's freebie game giveaways was that they had truncated the release timeframe to 1 week between freebies and that it would continue till the end of 2019. So enjoy it while it lasts folks.
