Reddit mobile app promotion is ...

Post by boars » 31 Jul 2018, 14:47

Well it's starting to get really obnoxious when you aren't logged in
I get it, you have a mobile app.
No, I don't want it thankyou.

That should be the end of it.

But no.

They hijack link clicks to their own content to promote it, they throw a link in the header they throw a link over the bottom of the page that looks like a pill (I'll take the other pill thanks) and then they have a entire site pop up and various over the top bottom light boxed promos.

I got so annoyed today I installed Firefox on my mobile and got the following addons: Stylus and tamper monkey. Then whipped up a stylesheet and some JavaScript to purge the bullshit.

This shit annoying anyone else or is it just me?

Even if you're logged in, it has started being really fucking insistent today and won't stop asking me, it was just prompting once every couple of days but now it's doing it for almost every single actions

I even reset the toggle for app prompting

I hate it. Sometimes I want to look stuff up and the best results are on Reddit. I'm okay with the sacrifices made for the mobile version of the site, leave me be! :(

Not just me then.

Argggggh I wanted to punch someone at Reddit, not that I would.

There's nothing the app does that I want that the mobile site isn't already doing... With the exception of the "hi guy, I hear you like apps, we have one of those, you should try it" promotions... ;)

It was just asking every couple of weeks, which didn't bother me, but on every single fucking thing is beyond a joke, can find a few other people bitching about it (on reddit ), but no solutions beyond doing what you've done

Should get fixed soon

Hey folks - our sincere apologies for folks running into the popup spam and opt out/can't disable popup issues. We're aware and working on a fix now, which we hope to have rolled out in part today and in full by EOD tomorrow. Thanks for flagging with us.
