Farcry 3

Post by Kendrite » 27 Mar 2016, 15:33

Looking for a new game to get into.

I know it's a bit older but I've not played Farcry 3 and it's on sale now (Steam) for USD$7.48.

I really like the original Farcry but couldn't stand the second partially because of the jamming guns, malaria, instantly re-spawning checkpoint - all weren't for me.

Given I liked the first but hated the second I'm a bit hesitant about the third.

Anyone played all of them have time to give me a quick opinion???

Cheers.

It's basically open world Rambo simulator. It's a bunch of fun.

I'm about to replay some Far Cry 3 in the near future too. I had it on PS3 when it was released and I think I made it three quarters of the way through the game, but then stopped playing and ended up losing my disc. Was lucky enough to grab a copy from Anon-E-Moose in the Pay It Forward thread here, just the other week, so that I can try to finish it this time. My memory of it was the story is very boring and your "friends" are extremely lame but the gameplay is quite a bit of fun! I've not played any since 3, but 3 is definitely worth a play if you look past the story. Great locations, scenery, animals, vehicle fun, random encounters, and all with pretty tight gunplay etc.

I've played (and finished) every Far Cry. Honestly 2 was favourite, because of those points you've listed as reasons you hated it.

But, Far Cry 3 is a very nice game. If you haven't played it, you definitely should. I'll warn you about uPlay before anything else though, I have no problem with it and it really isn't that bad, but some people hate it and refuse to buy Ubi games because of it. I'd recommend buying the Deluxe edition, it's only an extra couple dollars.

The gameplay is pretty smooth. There are only a handful of things wrong with the game, and they're all just minor annoyances, nothing game breaking. If you enjoy open world exploring games, it's pretty nice, take your time with it, the campaign is pretty short, but there's lot of other things, side missions and capturing all the points (towers / outposts) is probably the best part of the game.
The coop stuff is good for a laugh, it's horrid, but if you have a few friends to run through it with it's worth the couple hours of play, can be played before or after the campaign, no spoilers, but there are a few things that won't make sense without playing the game.

I'd rate the game 8/10, it's missing a few things and a lot of stuff seemed forced (you'll see what I mean when you play it).

My favourite part was with the flame thrower and the sound track turns too Skrillex.

I bought the base game and got it working, will check it out tonight. Is the DLC really worth it? Looks like it's just a few extra missions and weapons.

I believe you can access the extra stuff through a trainer. Or, like, so I hear. :dodgy:

Just wanted to say thanks for recommending this. Was a bit unsure to begin with but after upgrading a few belts and things it's really opened up and I'm having a blast.

Didn't realise pigs were vicious....almost died to a couple while I was stuffing around!

Come back after the flame thrower! Still stands out to me after all these years.

I finished the main story, maxed my skills and it was awesome fun.

Not sure the story made sense but it really didn't matter too much.

I should go back and finish Fallout 4 but I think I'm suffering a bit of "Fallout 4 burnout".

Time to look for another good game on special - thanks for recommending Farcry 3 everyone. :D
