Paladins

Post by GamingKen » 18 Sep 2016, 14:07

DarkMellie mentioned this in the random game discussion thread, so I checked it out briefly. Pretty damn fun, basically a free to play OverWatch as 'Mellie mentioned. I've only tried one champion so far, and had no fucking clue what I was doing half the time (I only played the OverWatch beta briefly too), but I can see myself going back to this quite a bit, unless it proves to be horribly pay to win.

I would just like to point out, it's not basically the same, it's exactly the same, but can't argue with free.

I love how the tank hero even puts up a shield... And there is a flying hero with a rocket launcher...

I'm actually surprised they are getting away with it...

They'll probably get away with it because both games were in development at the same time. Playing "who did it first" would be tedious. I doubt Overwatch will take a huge hit from this game in the long run too, Blizzard have plans for supporting OW and keeping people strung along.

Gotta say, this game is doing pretty damn well for itself. Hitting a top of 40,000 concurrent players on Steam at the moment, and seeing it show in the top ten games at times, and that's not including the people using stand-alone client. Not all that far behind TF2. A few issues aside, (some random crashes and an issue with regions for casual match making) it's playing well and getting a good following. I've nearly managed to unlock all the champions now, in around 20 hrs gameplay (in a little over a week, sheesh!), just got 3 more to go. Though getting any good with any particular one is a whole other story.

I have enjoyed the few games I have played... other than the horrible ping at times.
Might try to jump in tonight and get some games in... do you use TS Meare? or any other chat program?

Had a bit better experience with ping now, but I expect it to be fixed soon as it only does this in casual at times. Even playing co-op vs bots I get a much better ping (70), so the Aussie servers are there but there seems to be some issue with getting matched to them in casual.

I had TS installed, but after a PC reset I haven't gotten around to reinstalling it. I'll get it done though, TS and Discord, so either will be good :) I should be about tonight, but if not I will be tomorrow for sure.

How does this game compare to Overwatch?

Does anyone play both and can say which they prefer more?

I played both... Overwatch is more polished, that is the main thing.
This felt a bit more forgiving at times, and for a free game was good fun to play.
I actually haven't played in ages, but should give it another go soon, I see they have added a few new people since I last played.
