Star Wars Battlefront II

Post by Mugsy » 16 Apr 2017, 07:15

Well, there will be a campaign...

Hope the content won't be as scarce as the previous title as this is looking to be decent.

Looks gorgeous, if they learnt lessons from the first and apply them, could work out to be a good game. First was fun, but content light and died super fast on PC in Australia.

Pewpewpew! If you missed the talk about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f7FkuldLAA

Probably most interesting thing about the SP is that it's going to be a canon story, which they've not done before as far as I know?
Ladytrooper's name is Iden, being played by Janina Gavankar, daughter of an Imperial Admiral, dyed in the wool believer in the Empire, going to crush the Rebels. Should be fun!

"Alternative facts" version of the galactic civil war hey?

I had my fun with Battlefront (about 80 hours) but really would've liked the game to have lasted a bit longer with the multiplayer community. It has well and truly died in Australia; I added a few peeps who were regulars and they never play anymore. I actually think Battlefront 2 looks the same as the first one, but really that's just saying both games look gorgeous.

I'm keeping half an eye on this one, if Dice doesn't put a server browser in this time then really all this crapping on about learning from past mistakes will be hot air.

Edit: just read they're ditching the season pass to avoid segregating the players. No doubt there will be DLC for cosmetic stuff but if this is in the same vein of Titanfall 2, then perhaps there is hope.

I bought the base game for an effective $17 on PC for my bro and played the initial week of launch. The Walker Assault missions were fun but the game suffered from a lack of large scale maps and variety. I was glad I didn't get it myself though as the season pass was over priced and was needed to add a bit more life to the game but the player base dropped massively.

This second game looks to try to win back the fan base with no season pass and free DLC in the form of seasons. I think this is a smart move if they want to keep the player base coming back, especially if they don't release the game with a large variety of maps and content.

No doubt there will be the usual micro transactions for cosmetic stuff but no season pass and free DLC will definately bring the 'jaded' fans back.

Really keen to see what they do with the singleplayer story thing, but the multiplayer looks great as well. Very much not lore friendly, having some of the heroes from different eras running around together, but having more heroes on the field should be a bit more exciting.

Just need to find the cheapest price that still gets the pre-order bonus! :P I was sold when they first announced no paid DLC content a few weeks/months ago!

Visually the game looks the same as the first Battlefront. Gameplay wise it also looks similar with the use of power-ups and starcards. The addition of a characters/content from all eras seems to be the biggest thing drawcard getting people excited, but if you didn't like the gameplay of the first Battlefront I don't anticipate this will change perceptions.

Having said that, what will help is the lack of a season pass/DLC which fractured an already small player base. Adding a server browswer or anything which avoids sitting in a lobby for eternity to find a game will also help.

The single player seems more like a side bonus, if Dice's track record is anything to go by.

I heard somewhere you can pay for cards and that they're better than what can be earned, was this trolling or? :|

I'm okay with that so long as it doesn't segregate the player base.

This game is looking good. Definitely looking forward to it. I don't know why they couldn't do a majority of this stuff in Battlefront.

feck. I have said it a thousand times already. I can't decide between the two versions. If the class bonus' can be earnt in game, then no point getting deluxe. AFAIK that's the only difference between the two versions.

Not sure how the upgraded classes work. You can level up in a class over time which unlocks additional card slots, but I don't think the class itself upgrades? Maybe I've missed something? It might just be a pack containing a weapon and maybe some attachments? Will look into it, unless someone knows what's going on there.

The "epic ability upgrades" for each trooper class can definitely be earned in-game, in the sense that you can get crates containing the "star cards" that do the upgrades by completing challenges or one each day. Or buy them with credits, which you earn for completing games.

As near as I can tell the only exclusive thing in the deluxe version is the two skins/outfits for Kylo Ren and Rey. Everything else can be earned, I think.

Yeah I really can't find any information on it besides the comparison on the two versions (link below) and that's where I need to work out if those upgrades from the deluxe can be earnt in game (the unlock system)
https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/battl ... ront-2/buy
Need to work it out asap as i want to pre-order to get the last jedi stuff and yoda's mastery.

Via VG247 :
As for deluxe edition-exclusive content, you’re getting upgraded versions of all four classes.
Here’s what that entails:
Elite Officer upgrade pack – The Blurrg-1120 blaster plus enhanced grip modification and the Battle Command epic ability.
Heavy Metal upgrade pack – The FWMB-10 “Megablaster” and barrel vent modification and the Personal Shield epic ability.
Armored Assault upgrade pack – The CR-2 (with a trigger modification) and the Grenade epic ability.
Master Specialist upgrade ability – The A280-CFE blaster rifle and scope modification and the Laser Trip Mine epic ability.
Assuming that's accurate, the "upgrades" are basically an alternate weapon and a high tier "star card" which enhances or replaces a standard ability. Both things you can get via crates or in the case of the weapons, can also be crafted with spare parts from crates.

So you should be able to earn everything in-game and Deluxe is just a shortcut. Probably.

Open beta should be available to everyone from 7pm tonight!

Keep getting an error of "Failed to connect to the EA Servers.... Error code:721".

Tried a few restarts, run as admin, manually adding the game to the Windows firewall, nothing. Appears that it's not even trying to connect, not a peep out of TCPView (though it might be using UDP)
