I'd love to do a group run through but won't have much time per week... the shit has hit the fan with my body corp repairs so I'm spending a lot of time gathering info atm... info I'll need to review and interrogate eventually.

I can probably do an evening per week... not sure if you guys are keen to schedule in a regular 1 night per week for PoE.

should revisit with a dude who just hits things with a hammer for simplicity sake.
Those are the best classes! I love playing Barbarian in Diablo 3... just charge into groups and smash stuff.

You'd probably want to play a Marauder with the molten balls skills. Great fun.
The only thing that worries me about that, is when you play with a ranged character, they tend to kill everything before you get to it lol, even my witch found that with slower spells.

Yeah, ranged classes, especially those with a bit of mobility have an advantage for sure. The melee build will need to have more mobility to be viable in those situations. Easier said than done unless you know how to min/max a build in the game. It's probably why I play Diablo 3 so much more... the skill system is much easier to get one's head around and the game doesn't punish you for experimenting with skills (outside of hardcore mode of course).

I've read so many good things about PoE and how the end game is off the show... but fuck me the intro killing skeletons on a beach is not selling itself to me.

How far do I need to push before I stop wishing I was playing Diablo 3?

Playing solo, I never shook this feeling. I played through D3 solo during the first year of release... all 5 classes simultaneously up to max level sharing loot between them. Each level up was a joy as I'd have a new skill/rune to try out and if I didn't like it, I could switch back to using what I had before. I couldn't do that with PoE... it suffers from the same issues I had with Diablo 2.

Both games suffer from what I find a common flaw with ARPGs... when there's a world of lore to sink my teeth into, I want to play slowly to read/listen to all the lore. But in a co-op game, this really ruins the multiplayer experience as I'd find myself skipping that stuff just to keep up (not having a go at anyone... it's just the design of the game).

What PoE does better in co-op IMHO is that it's 8 players and has a guild stash to easily share stuff between players when you're not playing at the same time. D3 could really learn from this.

EDIT: D3's streamlined town portal and teleporting to team mates is something PoE could learn from though. I'm not sure which has a better potion system. D3's is too basic in it's current state and PoE's requires too much micromanagement. I'm sure someone will think of something in between one day.

I haven't played for about a year now but:
Make sure you talk to all the npcs/clickables and read about everything (the clickables keep talking if you run off, so you don't need to stand around either), or you won't pick up the feel of the world. The game has a non-generic fantasy setting that is quite interesting once you get into it.
Act 1 is basically the tutorial. The devs talk about fixing this, but then keep repeating the mistakes that caused this, and don't fix it. Different mechanics are slowly introduced as you progress. There are quite a lot of them, but its still done in a slow and unclear manner.
Just spend some time learning how the mechanics of the game work. In particular the support gems and passives web (Damage and Life > everything else) to start with. Don't bother with item crafting at all.
They did something weird to the enemy life, and you will just steamroll everything for the first few acts. Later on you will have to learn about avoiding certain attacks (which are of course not telegraphed any differently to other attacks...). On the plus side, you shouldn't have to grind levels to be able to beat Act bosses anymore.
Act 2 is when it starts to get interesting. This may seem late, but the game does have 10 acts and the endgame now.

About 15 minutes.... it was a better game when they both launched and it's a better game now.

Had a blast with Nekosan yesterday, started a Marauder and focused on Strength/Health/Armour with Maces, all I do is throw Sunder a lot and then hit things with my mace and it works well!

If you guys leave a post here with the name of one of your characters, I'll add you as a friend in game and then add you to the guild. From memory, the game requires players to be friends in game in order for one to add the other to a guild.

I just reinstalled and the guild stash is still there full of stuff.

I haven't played in ages and there has been skill tree resets - so when I went to log into my main character I have to reallocate all of the skill points - what a nightmare!

The league guild stash probably has more stuff in it. I added some of my D3 clan mates to the guild. Retirees so they grind all day, everyday and leave stuff they don't need it the guild stash.

Reminder that the new Delve league starts at 6am (AEST) tomorrow. I downloaded it last night and if I can pick a class in the next 19 hours I might even play!

I decided to start a Hardcore character in the Solo-Self-Found league for a laugh. Got to the Azurite Mine thing for the Delve bit. Fell behind the cart and died in the dark. Bye bye Hardcore character already. :D

Might try a normal character after lunch. >_>

LOL Sorry to see your HC endeavor didn't get very far Mythor.

I started a softcore character in Delve. Not SSF though since I wanted to contribute stuff into the guild stash. Rolled a Marauder which I only had a lvl2 one in standard league. Haven't tried the Azurite Mine as yet (apart from getting the waypoint). Figured I'd find more Azurite first before venturing into the darkness.
