Grim Dawn

Post by Mugsy » 04 Sep 2016, 09:21

On a bit of an ARPG high atm so am keeping an eye out for the next one after we exhaust Path of Exile. Had a lot of people suggest Grim Dawn to me so I decided take a sticky beak so I know if I should look out for it with sales. Looks pretty good. Here's the trailer, the review by Good Game, and a pretty decent comparison with Diablo 3 (though subjective in areas):

Looks like I'd play it through for the story and quests mainly (probably one character solo, another co-op). Not sure it supports clans/guilds so might have limited longevity from that point of view for me.

You are aware that it's the feature game for the monthly bundle right?

I'll be picking it up when I'm back from a work trip!

Finished the storyline of this recently. It kinda dragged on a little towards the end because I was slaughtering everything and having to spend a lot of time finding where to go for the next bit. It's good fun though and has the Titan Quest style skill system, where you pick one or two classes as you level up and can spend your points in either or both. It also has a weird constellation thing to earn and assign points in for passives and some new skills.

Last month they put out a wave defense DLC you can play starting at level 1 called The Crucible. http://store.steampowered.com/app/483840/
Haven't tried that yet, will probably take my main character into it at some point to see how far I get.

Just realised that if I buy the Humble Monthly Bundle, I also get 10% off the Humble Store... and I haven't gotten Titan Quest Anniversary Ed yet either :-D

I forgot to cancel my subscription, so now I have it. Looking forward to some Diablo 2-like action.

5 hours into this and experiencing the same mind-numbing addiction to playing that I got from Diablo 2 or Torchlight 2. Not exactly fun or challenging, but there's some hypnotic quality that keeps me grinding on. Looks good and plays well, at least...

Yeah, I'm hesitant to install the game based on the same reason.

I play too much Diablo 3 already and Victor Vran and PoE already had me sinking more time into it on top of D3... don't need anything else tempting me atm. It'll be there in my steam pile of shame when I have time.

It's been a while since I indulged in an ARPG (not since Torchlight 2), so I don't mind playing through it. It's nice to have a break from more involved gaming that isn't just more Rocket League. It's always good to have a game I can turn on and play without needing to put myself in the right mindset, and put down without it being a problem.

According the Grim Dawn Steam Community page there will be a MAJOR announcement on March 5th (I'm assuming US time so tomorrow some time for us).

I've really enoyed the ARPG-style of this game and would highly recommend it to fans of the genre.

Another expansion, maybe? Not that I've really started the last one, beyond gawking at the skill trees. :D

I've still yet to make it out of town by the same distance it took to get into town let alone know what the skill trees look like.
