D&D Online Tabletop?

Post by Disco » 04 Jan 2017, 11:18

I was browsing through Twitch today and came across itmeJP, 4 guys who were doing an online campaign but still rolling dies and doing a bit of roleplaying and it looked like a lot of fun.

Anyone into this sort of thing?

Awesome, it looks like a lot of fun - I'd rather play with people who know what they're doing because the rules seem pretty complex

I was talking about this with Wyld last night, he can see a lot of growth in this area for Twitch, the P&P RPG streams do quite well viewer wise. I just wish I had the time to run a proper campaign.

I can see the appeal, getting my in person D&D group together to actually play is super difficult, would be way easier to do online. Would be a bit of an adjustment to doing it over skype or whatever though, would be interesting

This twitch channel had heaps of viewers, so it might be worth looking into!

That's what I think too, the way these guys play is pretty cool .. you can see a map, video streams, they used microphones etc. and online dice rollers, it's really cool.

From what I gather a lot of people use roll20.net or Tabletop Simulator for the actual dice rolling, maps, etc.

Tabletopia on Steam looks pretty slick as well: http://store.steampowered.com/app/402560/

All these tech things look like a good solution for people if they can get everyone to set aside time but not get everyone in the same place. When Tabletop Simulator came out I was surprised there wasn't already a bunch of similar things. It's also an area where AR/VR could shine as people could sit around a virtual table from anywhere. Might be waiting a while longer on that though.

I messaged one of the guys I was watching (no reply) to ask how they did it, I'll check those out.. as much as I'd love to start something like this I just don't know enough about the game to even know where to begin

I know we had a thread about using roll 20 a while ago. We we never got anything going.
I would be up for something, never done anything like this in the past, so something new for me

Yeah I think it's Roll 20 that the guys doing this twitch thing are using, then they maybe screen share it or something I'm not sure.

Maybe we should just have a crack and see how it goes/figure it out as we go? I'll sign up for and watch the tutorials for Roll20 and see if I can find a starting point.
