Fallout 4 - What mods are you using?

Post by Anon. E. Moose » 29 Nov 2015, 15:48

Sadly the GECK isn't going to be available until early 2016, but that hasn't stopped modders already making a huge amount of mods that improve the gameplay greatly.
At the moment I'm using the following mods:
Fallout Texture Overhaul Moons
Fallout Texture Overhaul Stars
FAR - Faraway Area Reform (LOD)
Optimized Vanilla Textures (Works well with FAR)
Radiant Clouds and Fogs
Vivid Fallout - Landscapes - Textures in HD
Vivid Fallout - Rocks - Textures in HD
WET - Water Enhancement Textures
Full Dialogue Interface
Free Weapon Downgrades
Improved Map with Visible Roads
Improved Workshop Lights
Lore-Friendly Ghould Eyes
no dotdotdot
Power Armor Fast Exit and Enter

There's a couple of other mods I'd like to get that kind of feel a little cheaty, so I'm restraining myself, such as Weightless Junk and Armorsmith Extended

What mods, if any, are you guys using?

Just these at the moment, most of which you have anyway:

Full Dialogue Interface
Lowered Weapons
Enhanced Blood Textures
WET - Water Enhancement Textures
Fallout Texture Overhall PipBoy
Towbies Realistic Weapon Sounds
Radiant Clouds and Fogs

At 12 hours in I'm not going to be too sad about being cheaty :P

Only one I'm using is Customize Legendary Enemy Spawning. Set it to 3x as frequent as Normal difficulty, which is the same rate as Survival. It's kind of cheaty in that you get more legendary items but there's also a better chance of really scary encounters, like legendary Glowing Ones in tight spaces. :D

I'm using customise legendary enemy spawning also, it's a great mod! Sucks when you enter a small shack, and a legendary skull glowing one is waiting for you!

Added Rain of Brass the other day, makes spent brass and shell casings stick around a lot longer and they're visible ejecting from guns from further away. Pointless, but cool!

Just using Shadow Boost myself, holy crap is it a godsend for downtown Boston.

I'm not at all keen on adding mods that actually change things in the game, had some bad experiences with mods breaking my late-game saves in Skyrim and my current Fallout 4 game has gone on much longer than that. Maybe next playthrough when I come back to Fallout for a second time some time next year. The mods should be a lot more established by then.

I waited to do any modding until I'd finished the game. Not hugely concerned if I have to reroll again, but not installing too many just yet. Once the proper tools come out things should be a lot more stable and the really good ideas will have time to rise to the top.

I started using Create Your Own Difficulty Re-balance to tweak survival a little bit. The game felt too much like Borderlands on survival, enemies turned into bullet sponges which didn't make the fights feel fun or very survival-like at all, so I've used it to raise player survival damage from 0.5x to 1.0x and left enemy damage at 2.0. Granted it does make the game feel a little easier, but this is meant to be survival Fallout, not some MMO with 10k hp enemies.

I've also added Reduced Junk Weight, Higher Settlement Budget and Simple Intersection to aid in my building of settlements. Some of the junk felt disproportionately heavy, so that just reduces the weight of many of them items, Simple Intersection just allows a small bit of clipping between items, helps for making those fences.

So the GECK and a bunch of official additional content is out so it's time to dig up this old thread and ask again - what mods are people running now? I'm looking to add a few more to the 62 I have so far... :D

If you missed the news post about the radio station mods, those two are easily my favourites right now. Will likely write up some of the others over the next few weeks leading up to the final bits of DLC.

But for now... Craftable cats! It lets you craft cats for your settlements. They produce happiness, but don't do anything else useful. Because they're cats. :D

Since the Vault-Tec Workshop (aka build your own Vault) has just come out and my current save game has become increasingly unstable and borked I've decided to reroll again, including an all new collection of mods. And this time I'm going to actually do all the linking and whatnot. :)

I'll try to categorise these a bit, too.

Radio:
- Old World Radio - Boston http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9048/ (good variety of new radio stations)
- More Where That Came From http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/637/ (new thematically appropriate songs for Diamond City Radio)

Clothing/Armour:
- Commonwealth Shorts http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7898/ (short shorts and matching tank tops for ladies)
- Eli's Utility Jumpsuits http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7848/ (various themed coveralls)
- Rogue Outfit http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11469/ (fancy corseted top, pants and shoes for ladies)
- Evil Detective http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14135/ (grungey detective outfit for both genders)
- Dogmeat's Backpack http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10111/ (backpacks and collars for Dogmeat!)
- T-49 Armor of the Storyteller http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14581/ (custom Power Armour suit based on fanfic)

Weaponry:
- Crossbows of the Commonwealth http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10484/ (crossbow! customisable with mods like any other weapon)
- Wasteland Melody's Chinese Assault Rifle http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13283/ (similar to the Fallout 3 gun, fully moddable)
- AS Vektor http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10697/ (modern SMG, moddable, Wasteland and Institute variants)
- Defense Gun http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14598/ (fairly simple, functional gun with sensible mods)
- Darker Pipe Rifle/Pistol/Revolver http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/742/ (changes the coppery and lighter wood textures to a nicer, darker look)
- Shell Rain http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/870/ and Visual Reload http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15118/ (litter the wasteland with shell casings and clips/magazines!)

Crafting:
- Armor and Weapons Keyword Community Resource http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6091/ (required for many other mods, does nothing alone)
- Armorsmith Extended http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2228/ (lets you wear a lot more clothes with each other and armour, makes armour more moddable, etc)
- Craftable Armor Size http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4550/ (makes light/sturdy/heavy a slot in armour so you can upgrade at will)
- Crafting Workbenches http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2451/ (new crafting workbenches to let you create new weapons, armour or items added by mods)
- Manufacturing Extended http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15429/ (new factories and options for the Contraptions machinery)

Settlements:
- Increased Build Limit Enhanced http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13779/ (build more stuff in settlements, in-game menu to add capacity, not batch files and fiddling)
- Don't Call Me Settler http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11306/ (allows naming of settlers, assigns job titles, change gender ratios for new settlers, etc)
- Settlement Management Software http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12032/ (reset supply lines! and other things)
- Settlement Attacks Beyond http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12892/ (moves raid spawn locations outside settlement build zones)
- Settlement Garage Sale http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14575/ (box that will turn inserted objects into caps over time)
- Immersive Vendors http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10039/ (vendor stalls will have objects on display instead of being empty)
- Homemaker - Expanded Settlements http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1478/ (HEAPS MORE STUFF TO BUILD)
- Workshop Spotlight Fix http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11090/ (stops them turning off after fast travel, can also increase the range and make the light cast shadows)
- Do It Yourshelf http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14532/ (various shelves to put random clutter on)
- OCDecorator http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4270/ (place static objects for clutter, won't fly off if you nudge them)
- Functional Displays http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5080 (mannequins, drinks crates, display pegboards etc)

Settlements-ish:
- Basement Living http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10967/ (bunker and basement "homes" with their own workshops, build off existing settlements)
- Conquest http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12511/ (build campsites anywhere, turn them into full-fledged settlements)

Character Beautification:
- Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Enhancer (CBBE) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15/ (higher quality textures and mesh, includes option for nudity, built-in underpants or use one of the below)
-- Sporty Underwear http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15513/ (made for the CBBE body, not overtly "sexy")
-- Lacy Underwear http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15768/ (also for CBBE, definitely "sexy")
- Commonwealth Cuts http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11402/ (so many new hairstyles and a bunch of new colours!)
- LooksMenu Customisation Compendium http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14171/ (compilation of various new makeup/scar/dirt/facepaint type options)

Quality of Life:
- DEF_UI http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10654/ (use DEF_INV for better inventory management, DEF_HUD for custom HUD)
- Valdacil's Item Sorting http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3877/ (better inventory management pt2, also offers weightless junk/aid items - minor cheat)
- Pip-Boy Flashlight http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10840/ (adds options for Pip-Boy and Power Armor flashlights, also makes them cast shadows etc)
- Another Life http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14253/ (skip the intro and Vault 111 sequence, select a custom starter kit/profession)
- Outfit Switcher http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10282/ (switch outfits on the fly with one button)
- QuickTrade http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16229/ (quickly trade with merchants instead of talking to them first!)

Visuals and Weathers:
- True Storms http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4472/ (tends more to realism, also adds ghoul hordes during rad storms)
-OR-
- Vivid Weathers http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15466/ (tends more to spectacular weather, including snowstorms and vivid colours)
- Darker Nights http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/191/ (seems to work better with True Storms but is compatible with either. Makes nights darker, changes stealth detection ranges/chance)
- Dynavision http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12411/ (adds a "better" dynamic depth of field effect)

Factions:
- Minuteman Overhaul http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13115/ (adds so many new Minuteman themed things)
- Raider Overhaul http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9103/ (adds new raider outfits, new paint schemes and makes them tougher)

Companions:
- Everyone's Best Friend http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13459/ (lets you have Dogmeat and another companion at the same time, minor cheat)

I think that's all I'll be using for my "Build My Own Vault Eventually" playthrough. Assuming everything works properly together without crashing too often to be playable.

Fallout 4 mods

Post by Kendrite » 20 Mar 2017, 16:14

Am looking at restarting Fallout 4.

Last time I played it I think I almost finished the main story but it was so long ago I can't remember what I was doing so plan on starting fresh character.

Am going to start with this to fix the inventory which always annoyed me: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10654/?

I heard the official 50Gb texture pack isn't worth it.

I only plan on using a couple of mods because otherwise I'll get stuck constantly modding and never playing! :)

Wondered if there are 3 or 4 essential non game changing mods I should pick up or be looking at?

think theres a couple that add the dlc ammo to the normal lootlist
got tired of picking up random dlc weapons (survival legendary drops) in the normal area and having no ammo drops.

keep an eye out for npc idle animations to add a little life to the people of the wasteland as well

this however is a settlement change that i might look at gettting next time i feel like playing
sim settlement - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21872/?

body mods with sliders are good for the extra fantasy for making sexy body shapes and the armor converters to make them fit without changing he body shape after putting armor on, just remember you have to do this throught the program outside of the game, then output the meshes to the armors before it will work properly

Modern Firearms if you want a one stop weapons mod with a huge choice of things that go bang 8-) - info http://darkheartsdream.eu/
DL http://www.moddb.com/mods/cold-steel-ho ... beta-11-pc

A couple of Video's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhOH1dcWo6g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKrZJ_SZ23Y

It's got a huge choice of weapons and also includes things like tactical vests and armour ,it's fully integrated into the level lists so you should start seeing badguys with the weapons and armour around lvl 10 - damage is brutal but theres mods on the nexus to reduce it
