So there's a rather nasty exploit doing the rounds right now on PSN where people are taking advantage of a bug in the messaging system to send specifically crafted messages that crash PS4 consoles (similar to the "message of death" issues that have been seen on mobile platforms/devices - most notably iPhones).
I was first alerted to this on a streamer's Discord server via this Reddit thread (which has been picked up by many of the popular news outlets).

Sony have since issued a statement to VG247 saying that they're aware of this issue and are working on a permanent solution (read: PS4 system software update).

While Sony works on a fix, you can prevent this from happening to you by setting your PSN account's messaging settings to "Friends Only" or "No-one". Here's how to do that.
1. On your PS4 console, go to Settings.
2. Select Account management and then select Privacy settings.
3. Enter your PSN account password if prompted.
4. Select Personal info | Messaging.
5. Scroll down to Messages and select Friends Only or No-one.
If your PS4 has already been hit by this issue, you'll need to delete the message using your mobile device (via the PlayStation Messages app) or via your web browser (via the PlayStation website) and then rebuild the database in PS4 Safe Mode. More information on PS4 Safe Mode, how to trigger it, and what the different options are can be found here.

...you guessed it. Any posts that don't fit in the other categories - or any discussions about gaming hardware (including Steam Machines!) - should go in here.
