Would not be slightly surprised...

If only there wasn't just one wholesale provider with shitty service.

Cannot take your money elsewhere :\

So I called Optus the other day about NBN speeds and it turns out my 12 month old speed boost pack ($20 for 50/20) can be replaced with a 100/40 pack at the same price...

Had it switched over last night finally and it's good to be back!

My area has been changed from HFC in H2 2019, to FTTN by February 2018.

Now to try and work out where the node will be to see how boned I am

Do you have cable though? Or Foxtel?

http://www.smh.com.au/technology/gadget ... r1t6p.html

I had Foxtel for a bit at my parents house, so I'm hoping that means they'll still be able to use the HFC.

There's optus cable in the street, but I don't see the value when it doesn't really offer faster upload and it's substantially more expensive than my ADSL.

FTTN *shouldn't* be worse than my current ADSL2 speed (12.5/1), and with luck it'll be faster, just a shame as HFC offers the guarantee of speed tiers, OH WELL

I meant more that it sounds like if you had a cable connection already, you would stick with HFC for NBN.

My parents are currently on ADSL2+, but I think they'll get HFC because of me connecting Foxtel Cable to the house back years ago.

Not if the area itself gets changed to FTTN like what happened in my area (which does inlude some Foxtel HFC, it just doesn't run up my street specifically)

Well that's gotten way cheaper since I last looked, but with NBN now right around the corner, I guess there's no real gain to be had

Still Jan-Jun 2019 for HFC. Hopefully that doesn't change... unless it's FTTC or FTTP.

My bro's a lucky bugger... he's serviced by one of the few exchanges in Brisbane that has FTTP. I don't think I'll be that lucky... my area's Members are all Labour so unless Labour gets into power and make an immediate overhaul of the rollout before the current rollout date, I'll be getting HFC.

Hmm, NBN has become available to me... now who to go with for 50/20 NBN
And download limit will be a defining factor... as I download way too many games, and watch Foxtel enough that it chews the data...

So far I have Skymesh, Internode, and Bendigo Telco

Skymesh has been good for me, but they were bought out by another company and said NOTHING, which is very shady. Service reliability hasn't been affected as yet though so it's probably fine! [Edit: Service has gone bad, disregard! ]

Wouldn't recommend Internode as they are basically TPG now and TPG is garbage. And if you're going to TPG you may as well just go with TPG itself, probably?

TPG don't offer a 50/20 plan, where as Internode still do.
Also have people on Internode in the same town as me and their service is good... which is a good sign

Problem I have with Skymesh is the low peak downloads... I easily use my 200GB on ADSL now, so 240GB isn't going to last long on NBN

That Whirlpool thread is how I found out, as I happened to be on Whingepool for something else. Still have unmetered Netflix and they've not tried to reduce quotas. And there's no contract so it's easy to run awayyyyyy. :D

Does Skymesh still match plans from competitors following this buy out or has that practice stopped?

Parents got their NBN hooked up yesterday, running over the coaxial thanks to me having Foxtel years ago =P

Not working yet, apparently the NBN guy just said it wasn't connected yet and they have to just leave it on and wait.
