Steam Link

Post by Kendrite » 06 Jul 2017, 19:51

Picked up a Steam Link yesterday - set it up and works pretty well.

I'm using the following set up:

Desktop PC USB dongle 2.4g hz 802.11n - AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Modem Router - Steam Link 5g hz (so wireless from pc to modem and then wireless from modem to Steam Link).

Would it help reduce lag if I upgraded the PC's wireless dongle to a 5g hz AC dongle? If yes are the cheap ones on eBay OK or is it best to stay with a more expensive known named brand like TP-Link?

I'm also stuck with how to use the keyboard and mouse on the couch. I'm going to have to get some sort of flat tray or something. I can use an Xbox controller but I struggle with it for most non-racing games.

Cheers.

I bought a wireless Logitech keyboard and trackpad, works for most things pretty well.
And the Steam controller for everything else.

Not sure on the wireless, but going full AC should help.
Can't really help on cheap ones vs brand names though

Steam link recommended I go wired when it saw the performance of my Wi-fi (wireless N 2 rooms away), so I'm hoping power over ethernet will fix the issues.

I am pretty sure you mean ethernet over power, not the other way around.

It works like an Ethernet connection and it works well. Was getting 9MB/s consistently on Steam earlier. Haven't tried the steam link yet - will do so tomorrow.
