New PC build sanity check

Post by Otto-matic Reiffel » 26 Jul 2017, 21:03

Going to be building a new PC for a friend, but it has been a long time since I've actually put anything together. He likes his FPS games and will probably also use it for drawing and other general computery stuff. He is unlikely to want to try overclocking anything and has specified no fancy lighting and quiet if possible.

Intel Core i5 7600 CPU $302
CoolerMaster Hyper 212X CPU Cooler $49
G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2400MHz Memory $181
Gigabyte GA-H270M-D3H Motherboard $155
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Windforce OC 8GB $749
Corsair TX650M 650W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply $139
Samsung 500GB 850 EVO 2.5" SSD $234
Western Digital WD 3TB Blue 3.5" HDD (WD30EZRZ) $129
Fractal Design ARC Midi R2 Black Mid Tower Case $135
Fractal Design Silent R3 140mm Fan $19

Did I miss anything?

depends what the budget is, but looks fine to me. Only thing would maybe getting 32GB RAM instead of 16GB, but that depends on what applications your friend uses. Photoshop, CAD etc can get quite heavy.

I use Photoshop, initially I used 4GB but have upgrade to 8GB recently. I see no appreciable difference to how it runs once it's going.

Did you need to factor an OS in as well?
And does it need the aftermarket CPU cooler? 7600 comes with a cooler doesn't it?

Old thread is old. I assume Otto has already built by this time? If not, yes, an OS if necessary, otherwise it looks fine!

Yeah it all came together in the end. Pretty good too, but didn't get any really good pics unfortunately.

BTW the crappy tags around the CPU fan were removed or tucked away.

Shop convinced the person doing the buying to get a 7600K even though they won't overclock, but it's their money.
Also had a spare copy of Windows 10, so that was covered.
