Playstation Classic
I think I'll need to see the entire library first but Final Fantasy 7, Ridge Racer and Tekken 3 are good starts. No analog sticks on those controllers though.

99 Euro is currently $161 Australian. Doesn't seem worth it for some ancient shovelware.
Unless they put Bushido Blade on it. Then I would buy one.

AU$149.99 according to Kotaku:
https://www.kotaku.com.au/2018/09/sony- ... -december/
That's $7.50 per game which isn't too bad.
For me, they'll need to include games like Wipeout 2097, Twisted Metal, Silent Hill (probably a no go due to the rating), Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Castlevania Symphony of the NIght, Gran Turismo, Abe's Oddysee, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 though. That's what I think of when I think PS1

JB's put up their preorder page already:
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/playstation/p ... le/647110/
EB will be going live at 10am tomorrow apparently. I'm not fully sold on this just yet. Only three of the 5 titles announced so far I like and even then, I doubt I'll play FF7 all too much, leaving only Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer as the games I'd play. And it must have Tony Hawk 2. I'm not a skateboarding kind of guy but damn that was an awesome game. If it gets Symphony of the Night, that'll be interesting as that game supposedly goes for quite a bit.

Re: Playstation Classic
My first thoughts were that it needed either Spyro or Crash and Grand Turismo.
The initial list seems a bit lacklustre

Re: Playstation Classic
After a bit more thought, I'm thinking it's best to skip this. I have FF7 on my ps3, wipeout hd and tekken tag hd too. I will probably experience all the ps1 goodness I want on my ps3 already.

Re: Playstation Classic
I read someone is trying to flog one off on eBay for $1000.00.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PlayStation ... SwrbpboiXC
Why are people so stupid (and I mean the seller and the potential buyer)?

Re: Playstation Classic
They're assuming it'll be a very limited run like the Nintendo ones and thus people will pay inflated prices again. The seller's getting ahead of themself more than anything.

I hadn't seen $1k but I did see a $600 listing on ebay yesterday. I sure hope Sony produces these in ample quantities to teach the scalpers another lesson.

Re: Playstation Classic
Yeah, underwhelming is the word I'd use too. Some they nailed... Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, even GTA. But yeah, no Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Gran Turismo or even Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a big let down. Ah... Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2's lack of presence also disappointing but I'm sure licensing issues with music there and with cars for GT1 ruled them out.
Any hoot, here's the trailer...

Re: Playstation Classic
I'm not surprised by the lack of notable games, Nintendo own all or most of the rights to content in their games so it is a lot easier for Nintendo to re-release games and emulation based consoles.
I use a combination of Mednafen and RetroArch + Mednafen/Beetle PSX HW cores for playing PS1 games.
I used to use EPSXE but as is also the case with PCSX-Reloaded I have come to dislike the inaccuracy of these emulators.

Re: Playstation Classic
Seems there's a lot more issues than expected:
- use of PAL images that weren't optimised for 50Hz
- emulation is sub par
- not many settings including no scan lines option

Re: Playstation Classic
Doesn't come with a USB AC adaptor thingy either. Dunno if that's mentioned in the video, just thought it was kinda sad.

Re: Playstation Classic
Yeah, the lack of an AC adapter seems to be the trend these days. The Aussie SNES mini release was the same deal... USA got their adapter though with the SNES. It's just BS that we get double dipped this way.
Found the hardware specs listed on Whirlpool:
16Gb of storage isn't much when discs are up to 700Mb each. Not every game will be that large but it'll be interesting to see how long it takes folks to hack this and put on a better PS1 emulator along with the games that people really want (i.e. Tony Hawk 2, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, etc). Support for other USB controllers would be good too... just to get back analog stick support.
Here's a vid with an unboxing... packaging is pretty cheap:

Re: Playstation Classic
Man, I remember Spyro.
My favourite game was Future Cop: LAPD...
Bit pricey though...

Re: Playstation Classic
Yep, bit pricey especially since neither of those games are on this things. The line up really sux. But people seem to be installing their own ISOs on it now via hacks:
https://twitter.com/bakueikozo/status/1 ... 32321?s=21
They also have a way to change the framerate to 60Hz now...
The disclaimer about bricking the console is something people should be wary of though. In one review, a guy plugged his PS classic into a Switch for power and it bricked the PS classic.

Re: Playstation Classic
According to the latest news, Sony is working on PlayStation 5 Games. I hope they will exactly meet the expectations of future generations now.
