Gave it another go: 2.1km in 13 minutes. This slow thing is really hard.

Did you have a heart rate monitor? I've found that's really helped me in keeping a steady slow pace. If I drop below 135 I put a bit of extra effort in, and if it goes above 142 I slow down a little. Trying to keep it around 140.

This morning, for example, I did 5km in 39:20 (7:50/km). Average heart rate was 137 and spiked at 146 (there was the occasional uphill that pushes the heart rate up, especially towards the end of the run), but it was rally helpful to glance at my wrist every 10 seconds or so to monitor effort.

I had a GPS watch that I borrowed from a work colleague... it was good to get myself running 6min/km. As it told me what my current pace was so I could speed up or slow down dependent on what it was telling me.
It really helped me get to a slightly longer run length, but then I stopped running and I have to start again now.

Nah I don't have a heart rate monitor.
I'm not sure how to go slower without just walking instead.

The two things I've noticed I do is shorten my stride and drop my cadence. Both took a bit of practice to get right - at first it felt awkward and like I was shuffling, but I eventually got into a comfortable technique.

I might have to stop the jogging. Something is over tightening my calves and they are getting inflamed. Pinch me just above an Achilles tendon and it is agony.
I had an agonising calf massage this afternoon. She was impressed with how I was not feeling any pain with what she did to my back but when she tried the same on my calves, I had to ask her to go a little gentler. I've never had to do that before.
I'm not sure if something is wrong with my shoes, the way I'm running or if its the 10 years of not doing any running because it would make me throw up. But I think I should try to get that worked out.

This is probably too late but myprotein are rebranding and have 30% off everything atm, I've never tried it but this is a pretty good chance to try and few flavours and pick up some more creatine.

I'm onto my third 4 week cycle of 5/3/1 boring but big, typical 531 slow progress but I'm still hitting all my reps. Joker sets are starting to get interesting, its often in line with the estimated true 1RM from the previous cycle so 4 weeks after you max out youre grinding that max for reps. Makes squats scary.

I should probably be just using this week to figure out what my actual 1RM is but i've only got 100kg of weight and that's dramatically not going to cut it for the deadlifts. Been dragging my feet on buying more because i want to get some bumpers and add cleans into my workout but the quality and pricing is stupid varied.
