Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
I know that trophy hunting can be good (ignoring corruption and fuckups), but my main question was why?
From the video posted by Disco, is it because "kablaming rare animals makes you feel like a man"?
Edit: Thinking about it a bit more, is it a societal thing? Trying not to be mean or anything, but Disco lives out in the country where gun culture is much stronger. If his local social circle heard that he went on safari and shot stuff they would be all "Cool tell us more" - Disco is more popular. I live in the city, if I did the same thing the likely reactions would range from "Sure OK" to "WTF are you a monster?".

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
One of the more disturbing things I heard were about hunting club bucket lists, where essentially the rare animals are targets simply because they are rare. Another animal to shoot because it's another animal that can in theory be shot.
And honestly I think that's where the impasse is. Hunting has kept something of a respectability by recasting it in utilitarian concerns. When it's for eating, or pest control, or provides economic opportunity, then the parts of hunting that cause moral disquiet can at least be somewhat alleviated. But those motives are more a facade we use to keep a pretence of civility about it all, but the underlying discontent remains.
When it comes to game hunting, it's more for "sport" than anything else, so its utilitarian consequences (as opposed to shooting pests on a farm) are more indirect than direct, and really secondary to the practice. So in the language we've used to avoid the problematic nature of hunting in our modern moral landscape fails, and we're left with direct clashes between moral beliefs.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Why do I like hunting? I don't really know, I enjoy it - there is a satisfaction in getting a whole bunch of things to line up and pulling it off, which is why hunting bucket lists exists.
To me having "drive a Porsche" on your bucket list is the same as "hunt an Elk", all of the big game (and trophy animals) are typically signficantly harder to hunt. Anyone who thinks just picking up a rifle with a scope on it guarentees a kill should watch Meat Eater on Netflix, where quite often a professional hunter comes up dry with rifles and bows. So sure, there are things that I'd like to, and would pay to, hunt - that's not for everybody and that's fine, more game animals for me
It's easier to justify hunting if you like to, pest control, harvest meat, but at the end of the day a lot of people just like me enjoy it, I don't know if it's societal - I've always liked guns, I've done a considerbale amount of target shooting in the last 15 years with rifles and pistols although regulations make those sports harder to enjoy than just heading into your nearest state park with a rifle (at least in NSW) and being at peace, looking for something to kill.
I like to think I'm not unique here, but one thing I do hold close is that if I choose to hunt it's my responsibility to ensure that the smallest amount of pain and suffering is done to an animal, that often means not taking a shot because it's not right. Sadly, lots of people do and it's a total balls up with an injured animal on the run somewhere and people too lazy to track it.
One thing I cannot wrap my head around is pig hunting with dogs, how is that legal? The last few seconds of a deer I shoot are it's enjoying it's life, having a feed maybe, then dead. Pigs hunted by dogs spend the last minutes or more of their lives being hunted by a pack of rabid dogs, torn to shreds, then gutted by some redneck with a huge knife, that is insanty.

My last ct scan came with a report that says one leg is 4cm shorter than the other.

LOL.
Well, the doctor is getting the results checked as to whether I am an Eileen or not. 4cm is a big difference and hard to miss if it was really the case. He reckons it's more like 1cm difference.

How the fuk do you measure that in a scan anyway? Aren't you lying down and your muscles are relaxed etc? Or do you mean they said your legs bones literally are longer?

I feel like that's going to haunt me for a while.
Maybe even used with this as a meme...

Stupid, frustrating lecturer. I asked for more feedback on my assignment and he copy paste's some of what was already written and basically says "read this bit". I already read that bit. Stop trying to avoid actually teaching and do your damn job.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Being able to reach anyone one on one is tough enough, being able to communicate with 25-30 people at once - most of whom are completely uninterested in the subject - is a gargantuan ask of anybody. Teachers have one of the hardest jobs there are, and given their relative importance to society, it's amazing how negative we are about the way most do it.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
I have to remind people of the same thing for body corp and property managers... many of whom have to manage 100+ body corps/properties just to make sure their business is financially viable. The last letter I wrote to all residents at my complex took me an hour to draft and that's because I had to check all the facts etc as well. No way would the body corp manager been able to draft such a letter and tend to the rest of her portfolio in a day. I have to remind some of the other committee members that whilst we'd like to see the body corp manager do more, you gotta put yourself in their shoes (which is a skill in itself).
Same goes for teachers... though, I can understand how frustrating it is for Yurtles who sounds eager to be there but isn't getting the desired feedback.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Holidays depends on the teacher and the year level. If they're doing it right* they don't end up with much more than 6 weeks a year for high school after dealing with professional development, marking and prep. Plus they have to deal with about 25-30 unruly children/teenagers for most of a day.
* Plenty don't really care, which is a bit unfortunate.

Bought a decent RC car for a bit of fun with the kids... Damn these things are good fun, and faster than I expected.
I got a beginner one (Capable of doing 45km/h apparently) and it has been great... may have crashed it a few times, and rolled it, and generally just thrown it around. But it hasn't been hurt yet...
Now to decide if I want a bigger one... might look at getting one each for the kids soon too.. maybe Christmas presents...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
I love public holidays....
Christmas time, I'm using 5 annual leave days and get 11 days off straight.
Then in April when Disco, Nekosan and I go on a cruise I'm only using 11 annual leave days but having 19 days off straight.
I don't think I've had anywhere near 19 days off straight since we got married.

Got my feedback from my lecturer finally. I ended up stacking 3 emails on top of each-other over the weekend as I thought of more things I wanted answers to.
Maybe not the best impression to be making on the person who has yet to grade my final exam. But fuck it. I didn't sign up not to learn.
